Non-overpriced farmer's markets?
Main Post:
I'm looking for great produce, especially fruit, at reasonable prices. Intuition would tell me that bypassing wholesale and supermarkets should be cheaper. The Mountain View and Campbell farmer's markets are all more expensive than Whole Foods.
Where are the real farmer's markets that are not overpriced for rich people?
Top Comment: Milpitas one on Sundays is a lot of smaller minority farmers so their stuff is always more affordable. The produce is geared towards Asian cuisines though. Like yam leaves and water spinach instead of kale and Swiss chard. But even at Campbell there is C farms at the end, the Cambodian/Laos? lady and her stuff is always affordable and delicious.
Where Are the Best Local Farmers’ Markets & Small Businesses?
Main Post:
Alright y’all, I’m trying to be a better human and support local farmers’ markets, small businesses, and mom-and-pop shops instead of just throwing my money at big chains. If you’ve got a fave spot for fresh produce, handmade goods, or just an awesome local business that deserves love, drop it in the comments!
Also, how do you even find the best local spots (but also in the greater South Bay area)? Any go-to websites, IG pages, or newsletters that keep you in the loop?
Help me (and my wallet) make better choices—where do you shop local?
Top Comment: Campbell Farmer's Market is by-far the king imo.
Are farmers markets supposed to be expensive?
Main Post:
I’ve noticed both the Sunnyvale and Mountain View farmers markets are crazy expensive. In other countries these types of markets are usually cheaper than supermarkets or at least comparable, but in here feels like we’re paying a premium and in many cases stuff is not even organic nor necessarily better. I found the typical Mexican mini markets way better value for money for example. Is this always the way it’s been and my expectations are just off?
Top Comment: The MV Farmers' Market has been grocery-store expensive ever since I first started going in 2007. I still go every week, but I go for the quality, variety, ambience, and community - not the prices.

Which farmer's market stands are legit? Which aren't?
Main Post:
The local farmer's markets often have stands that will sell 25+ different produce items. I always was of the understanding that most farms specialize in just a couple items - so when I see this it raises my eyebrows. A few times the sellers have mentioned that they are also selling their neighbors' produce.
I saw this report years ago and it made me always wonder how honest these sellers are. Does anybody know? Do the folks putting on the farmers markets ever due their due diligence and check out the sellers?
Top Comment: That video is from Canada, the USA/California have different regulations. Eg in California “It is illegal for farmers to buy and re-sell agricultural products at a Certified Farmers Market.” http://www.cafarmersmkts.com/sell-at-a-farmers-market#sell-at-a-market
Best farmers’ market?
Main Post:
I recently moved back to Fremont from San Diego, and I’m trying to see what the best farmers’ markets are. I usually go to the one in Campbell, but it’s a bit further than I wanna go on a Sunday morning.
Hoping to find a great selection of organic produce and some homemade bread. I’m not too particular about the food vendors, I’m really just trying to get some grocery shopping done 😅 I used to go to the one by Newpark Mall when I was a little kid, but wanted to get some other opinions! Thanks in advance!
Top Comment: Irvington on Sunday morning is the one I go to. Unlike some markets, the people there are serious about buying their weekly produce.
Why do people say the farmers market is a good way to save money when every one i go to is more expensive than Aldi / walmart?

Farmer’s markets
Main Post:
What’s everyone’s fav farmers market in the city that’s decently priced? I’ve been to: Inner sunset, felt like this was on the pricier side Ofc the ferry building, sooooo pricey but makes sense Heart of the city (civic center), this one was the cheapest but yah know...the area I want to support local farmers but paying $5.90+ per pound for peaches is insane when it’s half the price at Safeway. Thanks :))))
Top Comment: Alemany, the people's market
